Singh, a close aide of Smriti, was shot dead by unknown assailants; suspects held
New Delhi/Amethi, May 26 : Senior BJP leader and outgoing Textile Minister Smriti Irani, who defeated Congress Party president Rahul Gandhi in recently concluded Lok Sabha polls in Amethi, today visited the family of Surendra Singh, a close aide of her, who was shot dead by unknown assailants on Saturday.
Police today detained some suspects in the killing of former village head of Baraulia, Surendra Singh. The police are also looking into all aspects of killing, including political rivalry, police said.
“We have taken arrested some suspects in this case. We are getting more inputs regarding the case and are acting on it. Since he had been a village chief, it seems to be a fallout of an old rivalry. We are not ruling out a political rivalry and are looking into all aspects of the case,” Amethi’s Superintendent of Police [SP] Rajesh Kumar said.
