Balrampur, 29 Nov: Two physicians, including the head of a private nursing facility, were detained in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, for their alleged participation in the sale of a newborn infant to a family in the neighbouring Siddharth Nagar district. The kid was discovered at the home of corporator Mohammad Nishar, and authorities are on the search for him, police said.
The two physicians were named as Akram, 40, the director of a private hospital, and Dr Hafizur Rehman, 50, who manages a hospital in Siddharth Nagar, according to Awadesh Kumar Singh, the station house officer (SHO) of Pachperwa police station. Pushpa Devi, 28, a local resident, approached police on November 26 and told them she had had a C-section on October 29.
According to police, Dr Rehman performed the procedure, and Dr Akram was there, she informed the police. The physicians allegedly informed her after the procedure that she had given birth to a stillborn baby. Devi was released from the hospital after seven days.
According to her, despite many requests, the stillborn infant was not presented to the family, police said.
Devi learned a few days earlier from reliable sources that she had given birth to a healthy kid who had been sold by the physicians. After Devi filed a FIR at the Pachperwa police station in Balrampur, the police launched an inquiry and questioned the physicians, who reportedly neglected to provide precise answers until confessing to being involved in selling babies.
The police raided corporator Nishar’s residence in Siddharth Nagar based on information supplied by the physicians and discovered the infant. “The doctors admitted to selling the baby but did not disclose the amount,” a police officer added.
The infant has been returned to the mother. According to Balrampur Circle Officer Raghvendra Singh, they have sent a report to the district hospital, which is gathering information about the nursing home.
