With this, now the entire weapon system is ready to join the Indian Army. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, Indian Army and industry on this achievement.
The Defense Ministry said on Monday that field evaluation tests of the third generation anti-tank fire-and-forget guided indigenous missile Nag Mark-2 have been conducted recently. Senior officers of the Indian Army were present at the time of testing at Pokhran Field Range. During all three field tests, the missile systems accurately destroyed all the targets of maximum and minimum range. During this time, the field evaluation of Nag Missile Carrier Version-2 was also done. With this, now the entire weapon system is ready to join the Indian Army.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and DRDO Chairman Dr Sameer V Kamat have praised the efforts of all stakeholders in preparing the missile for inclusion in the Indian Army.
This modern missile can target a large tank in any weather. Apart from many features, it also has infrared, which locks the target before launch. After this, Nag suddenly rises up and then quickly turns at the angle of the target and moves towards it. Its ability to hit the target is quite accurate. It is very light in weight, but despite this it can destroy enemy tanks and other military vehicles in seconds.
It is one of the five missile systems developed by India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.
The DRDO has developed it at a cost of 300 crores. Its range is up to 4 km. Its first successful test was done in November 1990. It is also called a ‘fire and forget’ anti-tank missile, because once it is fired, it does not require re-guiding. On July 18, 2019, DRDO also successfully tested the Nag anti-tank guided missile in Pokhran’s firing range. Different trials are conducted for such missiles. In this sequence, the last trial of the third generation of anti-tank guided missile ‘Nag’ has been done today.
Earlier also, tests of different types of Nag missiles have been done in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Every time something new has been added to it. The completely indigenous Nag missile is very light in weight, medium and short range, which works with many other resources including fighter jets, war ships. It has the ability to hit the target accurately and can destroy the enemy’s tank. This anti-tank missile can destroy enemy tanks and other military vehicles in seconds.
