4.10% increase in sowing of Kharif crops, 50% pulses in current year, informs A&F Welfare Ministry

New Delhi, July 8: Compared to last year, there has been a 14.10 percent increase in sowing of Kharif crops and 50 percent increase in area of โ€‹โ€‹pulses in the current year.

The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has announced the progress of area coverage under Kharif crop on Monday, July 8.

According to the ministry, this time Kharif crops have been sown in a total area of โ€‹โ€‹378 lakh hectares.

According to the statement issued by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, last year paddy cultivation was done in 50.26 hectares, this year it has increased to 59.99 hectares.

Similarly, the area of โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹pulses has increased from 23.78 to 36.81 hectares. It includes Tuar, Bajra, Kulthi. According to the ministry, this year the area under oilseeds has increased by 30 percent. It has been sown in 80.31 hectares instead of 51.97 hectares last year. This includes peanuts, soybean, sunflower, sesame and castor.

According to the ministry, this year the area under coarse grains has decreased. Last year coarse grains were sown in 82.08 hectares, this time it has decreased by 30 percent to 58.48 hectares. This includes fodder, millet, ragi, small millet and corn.

Whereas this year there has been a slight increase in the sowing of sugarcane. According to the ministry, it has increased from 55.45 hectares last year to 56.88.
