New Delhi, 22 February: With a view to strengthen the farmers of the country, one year will be completed on the coming Monday of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) launched on February 24, ย 2019. So far, the central government has spent an amount of Rs 50,850 crore on this head.
The scheme was launched with the objective of increasing the income of farmers by providing income support to the families of all landless farmers across the country so that they can take care of the expenses related to agriculture and allied activities as well as household needs.
According to the data released by the Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Ministry on Saturday, the central government has so far sent an amount of Rs 50,850 crore to farmers’ account under this head.
Based on the estimates of Agricultural Census 2015-16, the total number of beneficiaries covered under the scheme is about 14 crores. Based on the beneficiary data uploaded on the PM-KISAN web portal by the State / UT Governments till February 20, 2020, 8.46 crore farmer families have been benefited.
Initially, only small farmers, who own two acres or less of agricultural land were to be benefited under this scheme. However, later all small and big farmers were made eligible. Under the scheme, an amount of Rs 6,000 / per year is transferred in three three-monthly installments of Rs 2000, which is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the farmers.
