6 suspects detained for plotting to overturn Kalindi Express in Kanpur

Kanpur, 9 September: Joint Police Commissioner Harishchandra said that six suspects have been detained and are being questioned. Along with this, the Tablighi Jamaaties coming to the city are also being monitored. Railway officials have lodged a complaint in Shivrajpur police station and registered a case against unknown people.

A conspiracy was hatched on Sunday night to overturn Kalindi Express by placing LPG gas cylinders and petroleum bombs and other inflammable substances near Shivrajpur station on Kanpur-Farrukhabad railway track. This has created a stir in the railway and police department.

On Monday, ATS IG Neelabja Chaudhary reached the spot and took stock of the incident. Police has detained six suspects and is interrogating them. The way inflammable substances were placed on the railway track, police suspects that this could be a terrorist incident.

Kalindi Express was going towards Bhiwani from Prayagraj via Kanpur Central and Anwarganj stations on Sunday night. It had just reached before Shivrajpur station when the driver saw an LPG gas cylinder placed on the railway track. On this, the driver applied emergency brakes and the speed of the train slowed down. The gas cylinder collided at a slow speed and fell far away. At the next station Shivrajpur, the driver informed the department that such an incident has occurred near Shivrajpur station and the train left for further journey after some time.

Regarding the matter, the team of RPF Inspector OP Meena inspected the spot and were shocked to see petroleum bombs and gunpowder in a bag and other suspicious items there. As the matter was suspicious, the Railway RPF and GRPF team and railway officials reached the spot.

Here, the Commissionerate Police was informed and Joint Police Commissioner Harishchandra reached the spot with the police force late at night. Seeing the suspicious items found at the spot, the officers understood that this could be a terrorist incident.

On this, ATS IG Neelabja Chaudhary also reached the spot on Monday and took stock of the spot. ATS IG said that the LPG cylinder was full and it fell far away after being hit by the train engine. Thankfully, it did not explode and an accident was avoided.

Apart from the LPG gas cylinder, many suspicious items including gunpowder in a bag and petroleum bombs were found at the spot. The forensic team is collecting evidence and further action is being taken.
