Ghaziabad, 04 January: Deceased dependents of the Ukhralasi crematorium ghat in Muradnagar cleared the jam after eight hours on the assurance of compensation of Rs 10 lakh and a government job to a family member by the district administration.
On Monday, their families jammed by keeping half a dozen bodies on the Delhi-Meerut highway resulting in confusion and chaos broke out among officers of district administration due to the jam of about ten km long.
The roof of the crematorium of Ukhalarsi village in Muradnagar police station area fell on Sunday when the funeral of a fruit seller was going on. At the same time, many people stood in the recently constructed corridor to avoid the rain.
However, at least 25 people were killed and two dozen people were seriously injured in this accident.
The injured have been admitted to various hospitals where they are undergoing treatment. This morning, near the Muradnagar police station, the families of the deceased blocked the Delhi-Meerut road by keeping half a dozen bodies.
Meerut Commissioner Anita C Meshram along with ADG Praveen Kumar, District Magistrate (DM) Ajay Shankar Pandey and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kalanithi Naithani reached the spot and asked the protesters to open the jam but the protesters adamant on their demands.
Their demand was to increase the compensation amount and to give a government job to a family member.
The protesters said that their demands should be placed before Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath or if the Chief Minister himself comes to the spot, then the jam will be opened.
After about eight hours, the administrative officials told the protesters that the government had accepted the demand for compensation of Rs 10 lakh and the remaining demands have been sent to the government. After this, the protesters opened the jam. Root diversion was also done in view of jam.
District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey said that the last rites of all the dead bodies have been performed by their families and relatives today.
