8 Muslims detained for offering namaz in public in Haridwar

New Delhi, 22 July: Authorities informed eight people were detained for performing ‘Namaz’ at a weekly market in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.

Authorities said that the Subdivisional Magistrate’s (SDM) court afterwards granted the suspects bail.

Nizam (22), Nasim (52), Sajjad Ahmad (50), Mursalin (38), Ashraf (45), Asgar (37), Mustafa (35) and Ikram (47) were detained late on Thursday night in Shivalik Nagar colony after receiving a tip, according to Superintendent of Police (City) Swatantra Kumar. They were detained for performing ‘namaz’ at a weekly market.

They were detained in accordance with CPC Section 151 (plan to commit any offense punishable by law) and brought before the SDM’s court.

He claimed that after warning, the court released them on bail.
