Ranchi, 6 Sept: The Compulsory Voting Bill, 2022, proposed by BJP MP Deepak Prakash was recommended for consideration by President Droupadi Murmu.

Prakash has received information to this effect in a letter from Ashish Desh Raj, an under secretary of the Rajya Sabha.

According to Article 117, clause 3e of the Indian Constitution, President Murmu has urged that this be taken into consideration.

On July 22 of this year, Prakash introduced the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

Ration cards might be seized, and absentee voters could face a Rs 500 fine or two days in jail. On the other hand, the option of a 10-day pay suspension or a 2-year promotion delay has been discussed for those government employees who choose not to vote for any reason. In order to encourage voters to cast ballots despite illness or incapacity, it is mentioned that they will receive special exemptions from hiring requirements, etc.
