Noida, 7 Oct: More than 1.25 lakh old vehicles registered in Gautam Buddh Nagar will be removed from the roads in accordance with a National Green Tribunal (NGT) judgement mandating the removal of diesel and petrol vehicles older than 10 and 15 years from the national capital region, respectively.
In response to an Uttar Pradesh government directive, the district Transport Department has launched a campaign to phase out such cars and has begun contacting their owners as of October 1,” authorities stated.
“These cars will either be scrapped or a no-objection certificate (NOC) provided for their utilisation so that they may be utilised in some chosen areas that do not come under NCR,” said Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Siyaram Verma.
Ganesh Saha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), stated that the Police Department was also conducting tighter checks and penalising outdated automobiles detected on the roadways.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Government Order, such cars might be relocated to 34 districts with higher air quality after receiving a NOC from their respective regional transport offices.
According to Transport Department data, Gautam Buddh Nagar had 8,26,110 registered cars as of October 1, comprising 94,299 diesel and 7,31,811 petrol.
According to the figures, 1,34,073 cars ? or over 15% ? will have to be deregistered in order to comply with the green tribunal standards and the State Government Order. There are 25,238 diesel automobiles and 1,08,835 petrol vehicles.
