25 shops of Naveen Mandi gutted in Lucknow

Lucknow, 27 November: Over 25 shops were gutted in a major fire that engulfed Naveen Galla Mandi on Sitapur Road at 11.30 pm on Saturday.

The fire was brought under control after a toil of about two and a half hours with the help of eight fire tenders. No casualty is reported.

Smoke started rising from one corner of Naveen Galla Mandi at 11.30 pm. A man Sagar, who was sleeping there, saw smoke and flames raised an alarm.

More than 25 shops caught fire in no time. During this, two explosions also took place. All the shops in the market are temporary. Plastic bags were lying on top of the tin shed. Due to this the fire started spreading.

According to the police, the shops of Mubeen, Radhe Lal, Karan Sonkar, Himanshu Sonkar, Tariq and others were gutted. Sagar said 800 to 900 people including servants and staff were present in Mandi at the time of the fire incident.

MLA Neeraj Bora reached Naveen Mandi on Sunday afternoon. Later, District Magistrate Surya Pal also reached there. Both met the shopkeepers on the spot and pacified them.
