UP govt to award toppers with cash prizes

Lucknow, 21 Dec: The UP government has decided to provide cash prizes to the state’s toppers of Class 10 and Class 12 students. A total of Rs 4.73 crore has been set aside for this purpose. Top scorers in high school or intermediate board examinations might come from CBSE, CISCE, the UP board, or the Sanskrit Education Board. A total of 148 CBSE board students will receive Rs 2100 for finishing first in the state, while 1549 UP board toppers will receive Rs 2100 each.

Director Secondary Education Mahendra Dev has set aside Rs 4.73 crore for cash prizes in each district. Although it is unclear when and how the prize would be granted, insiders say a fund has already been set aside for it.

A maximum budget of Rs 29 lakhs would be allocated to Lucknow students, with 25 excellent students receiving Rs 1 lakh each. A total of 20 UP board students who achieve top places at the district level will each receive Rs 2100. Students from Ballia will earn Rs 24.62 lakhs. Kanpur Nagar students will receive Rs 14.74 lakh, while Prayagraj scholars would receive Rs 12.57 lakh. The unexpected announcement of cash prizes has lifted the spirits of Uttar Pradesh board exam candidates.
