Lucknow, 28 Dec: Due to outstanding investigations, the Uttar Pradesh government has delayed the promotion of five IPS officials, including one from the 1992 batch, three from the 2009 batch, and one from the 2010 batch.

On Wednesday, the state held a departmental promotional committee (DPC) comprising IPS personnel from eight distinct batches between 1990 and 2010.

According to a senior government official, the DPC was held for IPS officials of the additional director general (ADG) rank from the 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993 batches. They were to be elevated to the position of director general (DG). Similarly, for the ADG level, the process was repeated for Inspector General (IG)-rank officials from the 1998 batch.

In addition, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) level personnel from the 2005 batch were considered for the IG post. The state also considered officers from the 2009 batch for DIG rank and officers from the 2010 batch for selection grade advancement.

According to the official, the DPC was a success, and the selected officers would be promoted to vacant (or new) positions in the following months. Meanwhile, many positions will fall vacant when certain IPS officers retire, including two ADG-rank officers and one DIG-rank officer who will retire in December. In addition, at least 30 IPS officials of various grades will retire in 2023.

Six IPS officials, including one DG, four DIGs, and one SP, are set to retire in January 2023. According to the official, three additional IPS officers will retire in February, including one DG, one ADG, and one SP. Another DG-level official will retire in March.

Seven ADGs have new assignments: The state government transferred/reassigned seven IPS personnel of ADG level late Tuesday night.

According to the order, ADG Government Railway Police (GRP) Piyush Anand has been promoted to ADG Administration, and ADG A Satish Ganesh, who was formerly connected to the DGP office, has been appointed as the new ADG GRP.

Similarly, ADG Administration PC Meena has been assigned as ADG to the Bareilly Zone, while Prem Prakash, ADG Prayagraj Zone, who is slated to retire at the end of this month, has been assigned to DGP headquarters.
