Lucknow, 29 December: North India is in a grip of cold wave conditions because of icy winds coming from the hilly state Uttarakhand. Thursday was recorded as a colder day in Uttar Pradesh than Wednesday as temperatures plummeted making life difficult for the people.
Visibility has taken a plunge in most parts of state and Western UP is worst hit these days. Dense fog continued to disrupt air, rail and vehicular traffic in most parts of Uttar Pradesh this week.
Ayodhya remained the coldest in the state with recording 4 degree Celsius, while the temperature of Dehradun was 6 degrees.
The minimum temperature was recorded below 10 degrees in 20 districts of the state.The cold wave since morning forced people to remain inside or if someone ventured out, they protected themselves with warm cloths to avoid chill.
Since last week of the year 2022, the cold has increased suddenly. The minimum temperature fell by 4 degrees on Thursday as compared to Monday in Ayodhya.
Office going people, labourers and women doing domestic work faced the most trouble in the morning. According to Dr. Amarnath Mishra, meteorologist of Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, due to snowfall on the mountains, the western winds coming from there are full of cold. This has increased the cold, he said that there is a possibility of further fall in mercury.
For the first time in this winter season, the maximum temperature was recorded at 1.6 and minimum at 4 degree Celsius, 7.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Lucknow and 7 degrees Celsius in Kanpur. Apart from this Shahjahanpur 6.1, Muzaffarnagar 6.2, Agra 6.3, Barabanki 6.4 and Moradabad recorded minimum temperature of 6.5 degree Celsius.
According to meteorologists, from December 29 to 31, the minimum temperature in the Western parts of UP may register further drop by up to 5 degrees Celsius. Mercury can go up to 2 or 3 degrees.
According to meteorologists, the reason for sudden increase in winter is western disturbance. This disturbance will pass over UP on Thursday-Friday. After the passing of the Western Disturbance, the western winds will be active again and a record drop in temperature will be seen.
The weather was clear in Lucknow on Thursday morning but there was fog. By around 8 o’clock, light sunshine gave some relief to people from cold. The maximum temperature of the capital is expected to be 21 degree Celsius and minimum 7 degree Celsius on Thursday.
It was bitter cold in Varanasi too with the minimum temperature here was recorded at 7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum was 22 degrees Celsius. The traffic system in the state is bearing the brunt of dense fog, hitting both bus and train services.
