New Delhi, 30 December: The central government has banned all manufacturing activities of Noida-based Marion Biotech in the wake of the death of 18 children allegedly from cough syrup in Uzbekistan.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted on Friday that in view of the report of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) after the inspection, all the manufacturing activities of Noida-based Marion Biotech have been stopped from Thursday night, further investigation is going on.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) team reached Noida to examine the syrup of Marion Biotech on Thursday. Samples of the syrup were sent to Chandigarh for testing. In view of the preliminary investigation, the manufacturing of the medicines has been stopped for the time being and further investigation is underway.
18 children died after drinking cough syrup in Uzbekistan. Today the government there has officially taken up this matter with the Government of India. The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan claimed that all the children who died had consumed cough syrup Doc-1 Max made by Marian Biotech in Noida, India.
