New Delhi, 04 February: Delhi University has taken an innovative initiative to provide higher education to orphan children. The University has made provision for the reservation of seats for orphans in all classes. Now, these children will not have to pay college as well as hostel fees during their studies.
The university says that orphan children who cannot continue their higher education due to financial constraints will get an opportunity for higher education. The decision to this effect was taken in the meeting of the Executive Council held recently.
Vice Chancellor of Delhi University Prof Yogesh Singh said on Saturday that in all the colleges and departments of the university, one seat each will be reserved for orphan boys and girls in all classes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
He told that the education and hostel fees etc. of the children who get admission on reserved seats will be completely waived. The Vice-Chancellor said that Delhi University understands the importance of providing higher education to every section of society. These also include those students who have unfortunately lost their parents and become orphans.
He further said that it is the social responsibility of the university to help such students. Realizing this responsibility, the university has taken this initiative.
The Vice-Chancellor said that this initiative would be a positive step towards the achievement of 50 percent GER in higher education by the year 2035 as envisaged in the National Education Policy-2020 and would link the ongoing efforts with its Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) in the centenary year of the University.
