New Delhi, 27 April: There is a serious and widespread debate going on across the country. This is in relation to gay marriage. In the midst of this debate on gay marriage, Drishti Women’s Study Enlightenment Center has not only started a nationwide but also a worldwide survey. In this, people’s opinion has been sought mainly on four questions.

Drishti Adhyayan Kendra’s first question about same-sex marriage is – Do you believe that same-sex marriage is a serious social issue in India? Second, do you think homosexuality is natural? Third, would it be appropriate to give legal recognition to same-sex marriage in India? And fourth, will legalisation of same-sex marriage in India have undue consequences for Indian society?

Drishti, a prestigious social organisation researching questions related to women, has called upon people from different age groups and places to give their opinion on the subject. It is very easy to participate in it. By clicking on a link, you can express your opinion through Google in just 2 minutes. This is the link- https:it.ly/drishti-ENG

The Supreme Court of the country has become the cause of this global debate. In the case of some petitioners, a five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of the Supreme Court is regularly hearing it. The Supreme Court wants to decide whether same-sex marriage should be legalised. On the other hand, it has been clarified time and again by the Central Government that this is not a matter to be decided by the court.

During the regular hearing on this subject, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Government of India, once again told the court on April 26 that it should not consider the matter of giving legal recognition to same-sex marriage. Solicitor General Mehta clearly stated that this is a very complex issue and will have serious social consequences. So the court should leave it to the Parliament.
