Lucknow, 19 May: According to central government data, Uttar Pradesh was the top customer of products and services through the government site, GeM, among all states and union territories in 2022-23.
According to the statistics, the Uttar Pradesh government and its departments purchased products and services worth ₹12,152 crore on the union commerce ministry’s platform Government e-marketplace (GeM) during the previous fiscal year. Gujarat (₹ 7,964 crore) was followed by Maharashtra (Rs 4,130 crore), Jammu & Kashmir (Rs 1,999 crore), and Madhya Pradesh (₹ 1,983 crore). The total purchase of products and services through GeM has surpassed ₹ 2 lakh crore this fiscal year due to a rise in purchasing operations by various ministries, departments, and states.
On August 9, 2016, the GeM portal was established enabling all central government ministries and departments to purchase goods and services online. GeM has approximately 63,000 government buyer institutions, over six crore sellers and service providers, and a diverse range of products and services available.
Currently, transactions may be completed using this site by government departments, ministries, public sector entities, state governments, and central armed police forces. The portal offers a diverse assortment of things ranging from office supplies to automobiles. Some of the primary product categories include automobiles, computers, and office furniture. The portal includes lists services such as transportation, logistics, waste management, webcasting, and analytics.
Among central government departments, the power ministry was the platform’s biggest customer in 2022-23. The ministry spent ₹30,572.9 crore on purchases of goods and services. The defence ministry (₹28,741.2 crore), the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (₹28,157.2 crore), the steel ministry (₹12,527.3 crore), and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (₹7,158.3 crore) were the next in line.
