Mumbai, Aug.16: Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Mission Mangal’, released on the occasion of Independence Day, has become the top opening film. The film has grossed 29.16 crores on the first day. ‘Mission Mangal’ has become the highest opener film of Akshay Kumar’s career.

Kumar’s film ‘Gold’, released last year, earned 25.25 crores. Film and
trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the first day figures of Akshay Kumar’s
film on Twitter.
The story
of the film ‘Mission Mangal’ is based on the success of Mangalyaan. Apart
from Akshay Kumar, the film also stars Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee
Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, Nitya Menon, Sanjay Kapoor and Zeeshan
Ayub. Akshay is playing the character of Mission director Rakesh Dhawan in
this film. The film is directed by Jagan Shakti.

2016: Rustom Om 14.11 Crore [Friday; working day]
2017: Toilet Ek Prem Katha 13.10 crores [Friday; working day]

Whereas John Abraham’s starrer Batla House has collected approximately 14 crore on its first day of release on August 15 [Thursday], suggest early estimates.
As far as film is concerned, the story of the film is based on the infamous Batla House encounter is pitted against Akshay Kumar’s sci-fi film Mission Mangal. However, the film Batla House had a decent opening at the ticket counters on Thursday.
“ Slow and steady Batla House booking is catching up fast. Expecting good advance sale on Friday and Saturday”, said film critic and trade analyst Sumit Kadel.
Reviwing the film Batla House, Kadel said, “ Batla House is a “stimulating thriller, which deals with real encounter incident in an intriguing way, which leaves audience contemplative and brooding”.
“John carries the film entire on his shoulder , fantastic performance”, he added.
The film is based on the Batla House encounter , officially known as Operation Batla House , which occurred on September 19, 2008, against Indian Mujahideen [IM] terrorists in the Batla House locality in Jamia Nagar , Delhi. During the shootout , two terrorists were killed while two others were arrested. Delhi Police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was martyred during the shootout.
