Lucknow, June 23: Around 60,000 women beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojana (PMAY) in UP have addressed postcards to PM Narendra Modi praising him for making them ‘Lakhpati’.

The ambitious operation was led by the UP BJP’s women cell, which reached out to nearly 1 lakh women beneficiaries of the scheme during the current Mahasampark Abhiyan to commemorate the end of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

Between June 1 and 13, postcards were submitted to the PM’s office as part of a campaign organised by UP BJP Mahila Morcha president and Rajya Sabha MP Geeta Shakya.

The PMAY project, which began in 2015, comprises delivering all-weather pucca dwellings to qualified recipients in both rural and urban regions of the country.

The scheme’s provisioning award of Rs 2.5 lakh offers precedence to female family members in terms of ownership.

In UP, over 45 lakh residences have been built/approved under the PMAY plan. According to reports, the UP BJP has managed to trace roughly 21 lakh of these, which have been awarded to women.

According to BJP sources, party workers have been ordered to go to the mandal level and check the precise number of women recipients.

According to sources, the party intends to increase its efforts to guarantee that the plan is consistent with its goal of prioritising women.

A top BJP leader stated that the party had previously planned a ‘selfie with beneficiary campaign’ with the goal of reaching at least 5 lakh women who benefitted from the PMAY scheme.

Later, the campaign was revamped, with beneficiaries referred to as ‘Lakhpati Didis’. PM Modi stated in February 2022, while speaking at the BJP’s ‘Atmanirbha Arthavyavastha’ (self-reliant economy) symposium in Delhi, that his government had given ‘pucca’ houses to three crore poor people and made them ‘lakhpatis ‘, emphasising that the majority of such houses were in the name of women who became ‘malkins (owners)”.

In reality, the Centre has prolonged the PMAY plan till December 2024. According to Vijay Bahadur Pathak Vice-President of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh in charge of the Mahila Morcha, the goal of the campaign was to reach out to the women who benefited the most from the Centre’s different programmes.

He stated that the PMAY plan is one of the most significant programmes aimed at empowering women. Pathak stated that the party’s goal has been to strengthen women both socially and financially, for which a specific campaign has been launched.
