Gopeshwar, July 19: A major accident took place in the Namami Gange project in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Wednesday morning. Sudden electrocution occurred at the site of the Namami Gange project near Chamoli market. In this accident, 15 people died while seven others were injured.
The Chief Minister has expressed grief over the incident. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident. Helicopter service is being provided to refer the injured to the higher centre. The Disaster Operations Centre has confirmed this by issuing a release.
It is being told that one person died last day. The relatives were not allowing the dead body to be lifted. The relatives said that they would not allow the dead body to be lifted until the cause of death was known.
On Wednesday morning, about 35 to 40 people, relatives of the deceased, villagers, etc., reached the spot where these people got electrocuted due to sudden electrocution in the tin shed. Due to this, 15 people died. This includes policemen as well.
It is being told that the current was so strong that even people’s bodies were torn apart. After the current came, the transformer caught fire, and it exploded. There is also news of some people jumping into the river. The scorched people are being taken to the district hospital.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Chamoli Pramod Shah said that some of the injured have been sent to the district hospital.
Expressing deep sorrow over the Chamoli incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that news of 15 casualties had been received in this incident. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident. All rescue teams, district administration, SDRF, and other teams are engaged. Helicopter service is being provided to refer the injured to the Higher Centre. Whatever contracted assistance is provided will be fulfilled.
Legal action is being taken for this. A police sub-inspector and three home guards also became victims of the accident. It is being investigated by ADG Law and Order V. Murugan, Dehradun.
The Disaster Operation Centre issued a release saying that a total of 22 people were present at the time of the accident. Out of this, 15 people died and seven others were injured.
