New Delhi, 20 July: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has granted bail to former Wrestling Federation of India president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and co-accused Vinod Tomar in connection with allegations of sexual exploitation of women wrestlers. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjit Singh Jaspal gave this order.
While granting bail, the court said that he cannot go abroad without the permission of the court. The court said that both the accused will not try to threaten or influence any complainant or witness.
During the hearing, the Delhi Police neither opposed nor supported the bail application.
Earlier on July 18, the court had granted interim bail to Brij Bhushan Singh and Vinod Tomar till date. It is worth mentioning that on July 7, taking cognizance of the charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police, the court ordered Brij Bhushan Singh and Vinod Tomar, former assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India, to appear in the court.
On June 15, the Delhi Police filed a charge sheet in the Rouse Avenue Court. The chargesheet has made allegations under sections 354, 354D, 354A and 506(1) of the Indian Penal Code.
Delhi Police has filed a charge sheet in the Rouse Avenue Court against Brij Bhushan Singh in connection with the sexual harassment allegations leveled by six adult female wrestlers. Two people have been made accused in the charge sheet filed in Rouse Avenue Court.
Apart from Brij Bhushan Singh, the other accused is Vinod Tomar, former Assistant Secretary of Wrestling Federation of India.
Women wrestlers had moved the Supreme Court demanding registration of an FIR against Brij Bhushan Singh. After that the Delhi Police had registered an FIR. Women wrestlers staged a sit-in at Jantar Mantar demanding action against Brij Bhushan. This strike had taken a political colour.
