Thimphu, Aug.17 : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bhutan on a two-day visit on Saturday. During this, he was received by the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr. Lotte Tshering and others at Paro International Airport. The children welcomed Modi by giving him a bouquet of flowers. During this moment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi receives a Guard of Honour in Paro.
PM tweeted tweeted ,“Reached Bhutan a short while ago, marking the start of an important visit. I am extremely grateful to @PMBhutan for welcoming me at the airport. His gesture is deeply touching,” afterwards.
Spokesperson for the ministry of external affairs Raveesh Kumar said, Prime Minister’s departure India and Bhutan shared deep historic ties and Prime Minister’s current visit will help in its further “deepening”,. PM Modi will “interact with various Bhutanese leaders”, the tweet added, while describing ties with Bhutan as the central pillar of India’s “neighbourhood first” policy.
It is noteworthy that this is Modi’s second visit to Bhutan after becoming the Prime Minister. Modi will visit the National Memorial Chorten during his two-day visit. He will address young students at the Royal University of Bhutan.
Modi will speak to the King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar, Namgyal Wangchuk and his Bhutanese counterpart on all aspects of island relations.
The two countries will discuss strengthening bilateral relations including economic and development cooperation. This may also include the subject of increasing connectivity between the people of both countries, including cooperation in the hydropower sector.
