New Delhi/ Srinagar (J&K), Aug. 17 : As the process of easing out the restrictions imposed in Jammu & Kashmir have begun, addressing the media in Srinagar, J&K principal secretary( Planning Commission), Rohit Kansal on Saturday said that,”There has been no untoward incident reported in the state so far. Public transport has started plying and we are getting encouraging reports of normal movement from a lot of rural areas”.
Speaking on the easing of restrictions on telephone lines, all telephone exchanges in the state would be made functional by Sunday evening, Kansal said.
“We hope that by tomorrow evening, barring a few vulnerable areas, all telephone exchanges in Kashmir valley shall be made functional. Landline and mobile services are already functinal in Jammu. We have also opened up mobile internet with some functionality at in atleast five districts- Jammu, Reasi, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur districts.
While the mobile internet services continue to remain suspended in Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts as per state administration officials.
Kansal said there would be full functionality of government offices from Monday. “We are looking forward to opening of schools beginning with primary schools all over. As we mentioned yesterday there wil be full functionality of government offices from Monday,” said principal secretary of J&K.
“Since morning, relaxations on restrictions have been provided in areas under 35 police stations across the length and breadth of the valley”, added Kansal.
Earlier today, section 144 (Prohibition of gathering more than four people) had been lifted for the day in J&K’s Kishtwar district.
It is noteworthy that, Centre on Friday had announced that landline services would be resumed in the region by Sunday while schools are expected to reopen on Monday.
Yesterday, J&K chief secrtetary, BVR Subrahmanyam said the restrictions in telecom services would be eased in a phased manner, keeping in view that terrorist organizations use mobile phones.
