Maratha Light Infantry Regiment to conduct ‘manoeuvres’ with US troops in Alaska

New Delhi, 24 September: A 350-personnel Indian Army contingent of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment will participate in ‘Yudhav Abhyas’ with US troops in Alaska. This exercise will take place in Fort Wainwright, USA from 25 September to 8 October.

This is a joint annual exercise held alternately between the Indian and American armies. Its 18th edition took place in Auli, Uttarakhand in November last year.

From the Indian side, a contingent of 350 personnel Maratha Light Infantry Regiment of the Indian Army will participate in this edition of the exercise.

From the US side, 1-24 Infantry Battalion of the 1st Brigade Combat Team will participate. Both sides will practice a series of tactical exercises to enhance interoperability in the conduct of UN peacekeeping operations. Soldiers from both the armies will also hold detailed discussions to share their experiences and best practices.

The theme of the exercise is ‘Deployment of an Integrated Battle Group in Mountainous/Extreme Climate Conditions’ under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate.

A command post exercise and expert academic discussions on selected topics will also form part of the programme.

The scope of the field training exercise includes validation of integrated battle groups against enemies at brigade level, integrated surveillance grid at brigade, battalion level, employment of heliborne, airborne elements and force multipliers, verification of logistics and casualty management during operations.

Logistics and casualty management, evacuation, combat medical support, other aspects applicable to high altitude areas and extreme climatic conditions will be verified during the force multiplier operation.

The exercise will also include exchange of ideas and best practices in the exercise on a wide spectrum of warfare skills including combat engineering, obstacle avoidance, landmines and improvised explosive devices.

In the ‘Yudhav Abhyas’, both the armies will get an opportunity to learn mutually from each other, which will further strengthen the relations between the two armies.
