New York, 27 September: India asked for documentary evidence related to the murder of Khalistani supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada should not level allegations without any evidence. Only documentary evidence can be considered for further investigation.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that indulging in such cases is not the Indian policy. Any concrete evidence in connection with Nijjar?s murder has not come to the fore so far. During the last few years, Canada has experienced many organised violent crimes, by separatists or extremists. India provided information about organised crime in Canada and their leaders.

Jaishankar was talking during a meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.

Several cases of extradition forwarded by India are pending with the Canadian government. Threats issued to Indian ministers and attacks on Indian Commercial Consulates is an issue of concern, Jaishankar pointed out.
