Hangzhou, 3 October: Indian women’s javelin thrower Annu Rani produced her season’s best throw to win the 15th gold medal for India in the final of the ongoing Hangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday.
Annu touched 62.92m, her season’s best throw, topping the charts and giving the country its 15th gold medal in the ongoing Asian Games. His best throw of the evening came on his fourth attempt.
Sri Lankan javelin thrower Nadeesha Dilhan finished second with her personal best throw of 61.57 metres, while China’s Huihui Liu won the bronze medal with a throw of 61.29 metres.
Earlier on Tuesday, Indian athlete Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalath had won a silver medal in the men’s 800 meters final.
Afsal had a chance to win the gold medal but he fell a few inches short of finishing first. Essa Ali Qazwani of Saudi Arabia finally captured the gold, defeating the Indian runner.
Afsal won the silver medal with a timing of 1:48.43 seconds. The Saudi Arabian athlete finished the event with a timing of 1:48.05 seconds, ahead of him by 0.39 seconds.
Oman’s Hussain Mohsin Hussain won the bronze medal with a timing of 1:48.51 seconds.
Krishna Kumar was the other Indian to take part in the race, but was disqualified due to pushing/obstruction.
