New Delhi, 09 October: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said on Monday that it is easy to make popular announcements but difficult to fulfill those promises. It is also difficult to stop such announcements. In such a situation, people have every right to know how the freebies will be fulfilled so that the public can take informed decisions.

While announcing the election schedule of five states in Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar raised the question as to why such announcements are made as the elections approach.

However, he clarified that this is not his field of work. As far as promises like providing free goods and services are concerned, people have the right to know when and how the promises will be fulfilled. What effect will this have on GDP? What will be the impact on Sustainable Development Goals and whether people will have to pay any additional taxes or not. All these topics were discussed during discussions with election parties and are publicly available.

In response to another question, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir at the right time keeping in mind the security situation. Elections will be conducted in the Union Territory keeping in view the security situation and in coordination with the elections of other states.
