Shahjahanpur, 14 Oct: Officials stated a 42-year-old principal of a government primary school in Shahjahanpur was detained for reportedly making indecent gestures toward a class 5 girl pupil.
According to Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena, the accused, Aasif Jamal, is the principal of a government school within the jurisdiction of the Roza Police Station.
The girl’s family filed a complaint on Friday, alleging that the principal misbehaved with her in class and handed her Rs 10 to buy her silence.
They claimed that when they went to the school to enquire about the principal, other kids told them similar stories of harassment.
According to police, the principal has been suspended and charged under provisions of the POCSO Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Ranveer Singh, the Basic Education Officer, stated that a villager phoned him on Friday to alert him of the occurrence, following which he went to the school and spoke with the headmaster and the girls studying there.
Singh stated that a three-person team with a female member has been constituted to investigate the allegation, following which departmental action will be taken.
