New Delhi, October 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that we are not only expanding 5G rapidly in India but are also moving towards becoming a leader in the field of 6G.
Speaking at the 7th edition of the India Mobile Congress at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, the Prime Minister said that this event, organised in the rapidly changing world of the 21st century, has the potential to change the future of crores of people. There was a time when we talked about the future; it meant the next decade, 20?30 years, or even the next century. Today, due to the rapid changes in technology every day, we say that the future is here and now.
Referring to the stalls set up in the exhibition at the venue, the Prime Minister said that in this exhibition I saw a glimpse of that future. Be it telecom, technology, connectivity, 6G, AI, cyber security, semiconductors, drones, the space sector, or other sectors, the coming times are going to be completely different.
He said that it is a matter of happiness for all of us that our young generation is leading the future of the country and our tech revolution. Last year, we gathered here for the 5G rollout. After that historic event, the whole world was looking at India with astonished eyes. After all, India has the world’s fastest 5G rollout. We did not stop, even after that success. We started the work of taking 5G to every citizen of India. That means we moved from the rollout level to the reach-out level.
Modi said that within a year of the launch of 5G, about 4 lakh 5G base stations had been built in India. These cover 97 percent of the cities and more than 80 percent of the population of the country. We are not only rapidly expanding 5G in India but are also moving towards becoming a leader in the field of 6G.
He said that the benefits of development in India should reach every class and every region; everyone should benefit from the resources in India; everyone should have a dignified life; and the benefits of technology should reach everyone. We are working rapidly in this direction. For me, this is the biggest social justice issue. Access to capital, resources, and technology for citizens is a priority for our government.
The Prime Minister said that the Bharat Net project has so far connected about 2 lakh gramme panchayats with broadband connectivity. This is the idea behind our Atal Tickering Lab. Through 10 thousand labs, we have been able to connect about 75 lakh children with leading technology.
He said that in the last few years, our startup ecosystem has also taken an important place among the most important success stories in India. In a very short time, we have achieved a century of unicorns and have become one of the top 3 startup ecosystems in the world. Before 2014, India had only a few hundred startups. Now this number has reached around 1 lakh.
He said that India’s Semiconductor Mission is moving forward on the mission to meet not only its domestic demand but also the needs of the world.
