Police personnel should be deployed in civil dress in all major markets on Dhanteras: UP DGP

Lucknow, 10 November: The festival of Dhanteras is being celebrated across the state on Friday, the first day of the five-day festival.

Keeping this in mind, the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (UP DGP) Vijaya Kumar has instructed senior police officers including police chiefs, police commissioners and ADGs of all the districts to maintain tight security arrangements.

In his statement issued late on Thursday night, the DGP said that police patrolling and picket duty should be imposed in all the major markets including bullion markets of the state. Policemen should perform their duty with caution. Women and men police personnel should be deployed in civil dress. Random checking of vehicles at these busy markets should be done from time to time.

Vijaya Kumar said, in areas like markets, bullion market etc., regular foot patrolling should be conducted under the supervision of senior officers and patrolling should also be done with Police Response Vehicle (PRV) vehicles and motorcycles as well. Surveillance should be done through CCTV cameras installed in the district and drone cameras at important hotspots and sensitive places.

DGP said that in view of the festival, strong police arrangements should be made at places like railway station, bus station, market, entertainment places, parks, multiplexes etc. Police stations, officers and other important numbers related to public cooperation should be publicized. The police station wise list of license holders of explosive substances and firecracker sellers should be updated and matched with the District Magistrate’s office.

DGP further said in his statement, regarding the manufacturing and storage of fireworks, checking of the stores of the licensed fireworks manufacturer should be ensured with the Sub-District Magistrate, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Police Station In-charge and Fire Department officials etc. Effective action should be taken as per rules against those who violate the license conditions or make illegal collections. Make the firecracker shopkeepers follow the instructions of the fire brigade and make proper arrangements for fire fighting near the firecracker shops and instruct the fire department personnel to remain alert.

DGP said that the station in-charge and beat officers should visit their respective beats. Make coordination with elite people and conduct the festival in a peaceful manner. In the districts, every small incident should be taken seriously and the disputes should be resolved by immediately inspecting the spot.

He said that a vigilant eye should be kept on various platforms of social media like X, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram etc. The relevant police officers should immediately take cognizance of misleading, objectionable posts and rumors and take legal action to refute the rumors.
