7 cops suspended in Bareilly after goof up resulting in stampede during gambling raid

Bareilly, 10 Nov: Seven cops, including the police outpost in-charge, were suspended on Friday on allegations of indiscipline and carelessness after failing to notify department supervisors about a stampede-like scenario during a raid on gambling activities here, according to a senior police official.

According to police, one individual was critically hurt in an incident in the Sardar Nagar neighborhood on Thursday and had to be hospitalized in Bareilly.

The investigation into the entire event has been handed over to the Superintendent of authorities (Rural), and the required legal action is being taken, according to authorities.

On Thursday night, a police squad led by outpost in-charge of Sardar Nagar Tinku Kumar and six others arrived to the site after getting information of gambling activities outside Alampur Jafrabad village, according to Bareilly Superintendent of Police (Rural) Mukesh Chandra Mishra.

When the police came, the gamblers fled, resulting in a stampede-like situation in which one person was critically hurt and was taken to Narayana Hospital for treatment, according to the SP. He went on to say that the police crew did not notify higher-ups about the occurrence.

Sub-Inspector Tinku Kumar, head constables Pushpendra Rana and Manoj Kumar, and constables Ankit Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Satyajit Singh, and Mohit Kumar were suspended for carelessness, misconduct, and failing to notify senior authorities about the occurrence, according to police.
