Uttarkashi tunnel collapse: PM Modi speaks to CM Dhami; Rescue operation underway

Uttarkashi, 14 November: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is extremely concerned about the 40 people trapped in the Silkyara tunnel of Uttarakhand. He has a constant eye on the rescue operation. Till now, he has taken updates from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami twice over telephone. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Railway Minister have also talked to Dhami in this regard.

The Chief Minister has given detailed information about the relief and rescue operations to the Prime Minister. It is noteworthy that Dhami has done on-site inspection.

Dhami said that arrangements have been made to send large diameter hume pipes from Haridwar and Dehradun. All the workers trapped in the tunnel are safe. Efforts are being made to get them out soon.

Officials and experts from central agencies are present on the spot to help in this rescue. Plan A, B and C have been prepared to rescue 40 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel for the last 48 hours. The auger drilling machine has arrived.

District Magistrate Abhishek has said that trucks with 900 mm diameter pipes have started reaching Silkyara since midnight. A platform is being prepared for the horizontal drilling auger machine to rescue the trapped workers by inserting large diameter MS pipes in the area blocked by landslides. The auger drilling machine is being delivered to the designated location.
