Geological study to reveal the causes of landslide in Silkyara Tunnel of Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi, 14 November: A six-member special committee has started investigation into the landslide that occurred last Sunday in the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel on the Yamunotri Highway in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. 40 laborers are trapped in this tunnel, the work to rescue them is going on war footing.

On Tuesday, the team formed by the government started studying and investigating the causes of the landslide that occurred in the Silkyara Tunnel.

The experts included in this committee formed under the chairmanship of Director Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Center have inspected the incident site and started the investigation.

This team of experts included in the investigation committee had reached the spot the previous day itself. This team is surveying the tunnel and the upper hill.

Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Sunil Kumar Yadav Scientist GSI, Kaushil Pandit Senior Scientist CBRI Roorkee, G.D Prasad Deputy Director Geology and Mineralogy Department, Tandrila Government Geologist USDMA Dehradun Dr Shantanu Sarkar.
