Ishaan Khattar’s ‘Pippa’ was released on Amazon Prime on November 10. A hundred years old song has been recreated in the film. The song is based on the popular patriotic song “Karar Oi Luho Kopat” by famous Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. This song recreated by AR Rahman received good response. But this song has started controversy. The makers have given clarification regarding this controversy.
Why the controversy?
Composer AR Rahman has presented this famous song in a new form in the film, but a few days ago a controversy started over it. Painter Kazi Anirban, grandson of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, claimed that the family had given permission to the producers to use the song, but not to change the tune and tempo.
Producers clarified on the controversy
In a statement, the team behind ‘Pippa’ produced by RSVP and Roy Kapur Films said that the team has great respect for the original composition of the song, the poet Islam and his immense contribution to the musical, political and social landscape. The team also said that the song was created to pay tribute to the people who participated in the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
In view of the ongoing controversy over the song ‘Karar Oi Luho Kopat’, the producer, director and composer of the film ‘Pippa’ has clarified that the song presented is an honest artistic interpretation. It was constructed after obtaining rights in this regard from the relatives of Qazi Nazrul Islam. We understand the emotional connect that audiences have with original content. But if our song has hurt anyone’s sentiments or caused trouble, we sincerely apologize.
Meanwhile, this song was first published in the magazine ‘Banglar Katha’ (Stories of Bengal) in 1922. Later it was included in Poet Islam’s book ‘Bhangar Gaan’. It was first recorded in 1949 by a well-known music company and then in 1952 by another company.
