Firozabad, 01 December: The effort to change the name of Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh has intensified. After the District Panchayat, the proposal to change the name of Firozabad to Chandranagar was also passed in the Municipal Corporation Executive meeting.
The proposal was supported by 11 out of 12 members. The Municipal Corporation has sent the proposal for name change to the state government.
The Municipal Corporation Board meeting was held in Jeevaram Hall. The important thing in the meeting was that after the name of Firozabad was passed as Chandranagar in the District Panchayat two years ago, now the green signal was given to change the name of Firozabad to Chandranagar in the Municipal Corporation also.
Among the 12 executive members, SP councilor Rehan opposed the name change. Along with this, the burden of house tax on buildings will not be increased. All the executive members rejected it. Whereas the proposal to increase the fee for transfer of name was approved by the committee.
According to historians, there was a kingdom of King Chandrasen in Firozabad and that the modern Firozabad, which was founded in 1566 AD by Firoz Shah Mansab Dar who gave the town its current name during the reign of Akbar, was called Chandrawar nagar. Before the Mughal rule, King Chandrasen used to sit in his palace in Chandrawar Nagar and listen to the problems of the people and solve them.
Former metropolitan president of BJP Kanhaiyalal Gupta has said that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has already been using the ancient name of Firozabad as Chandranagar. In ancient times, there was a city of Jain king Chandrasen, whose name was Chandrawad. Later, Muslim rulers attacked Chandrawad and destroyed it. The remains of Chandrawad city still exist on the banks of Yamuna. In the year 1566, Akbar sent the commander Firoz Shah, after whom the city was named Firozabad.
