New Delhi, 01 December: The PIB Fact Check Unit (FCU) on Friday busted nine YouTube channels spreading fake news and misinformation in India. These nine channels include Bajrang Education, Aapke Guruji, BJ News, Sansani Live TV, GVT News, Daily Study, Bharat Ekta News, Ab Bolega Bharat, and Government Scheme Official.
The Fact Check Unit has conducted multiple fact checks in nine different Twitter threads to counter the false information spread by these channels. The respective YouTube channels were found to have over 83 lakh subscribers, which were spreading misinformation in the country.
The PIB Fact Check Unit made derogatory statements on YouTube channels against persons holding constitutional positions, including Chief Justice of India, Prime Minister of India, Chief Election Commissioner, etc. Some channels made false claims about the imposition of the president’s rule in some states, the ban on electronic voting machines (EVMs), the resignation and death of union ministers, etc.
Fake news like a ban on Rs 200 and Rs 500, the closure of banks, and schemes and policies of the Government of India was also being broadcast on these YouTube channels.
Along with this, false claims related to natural disasters, the deaths of Indian citizens, the deployment of armed forces, the closure of
schools, etc. were also uploaded.
