Road Safety Drive to begin from Dec 15 to 31 across UP, table top speed breaker, awareness, cancellation of licence, vehicle seizure on the cards

Lucknow, 08 December: Yogi government has made extensive preparations for the Road Safety Awareness Drive will begin from December 15 to 31 across Uttar Pradesh. Road maintenance will be ensured during the drive. For this the focus will be on road engineering.

Instead of back-breaking speed breakers, table top speed breakers will be constructed on the routes and thermoplastic paints, cat-eye etc. will be compulsorily applied on them.

A spokesperson of the state government said that along with keeping the roads pothole free, the damaged tracks and illegal cuts will also be rectified as soon as possible. Not only this, CCTV cameras and ANPR cameras will be installed as per requirement at various places on the service lanes of each city and route. During the fortnight, the focus of the Yogi government is to make people aware about safety and also to take strict action against those who repeatedly violate the rules.

Attention will also be given to emergency care

The spokesperson said that the government is serious about road safety as well as emergency care. There will be special focus on this during the fortnight.

He said, according to the action plan, instructions have been given to upgrade the medical aid posts established at NHAI toll plazas. Under emergency care, Aapda Mitras of the Revenue Department and petrol pump dhaba personnel, vehicle mechanics will be given first responder training by the Health Department, while health cards will be issued compulsorily for commercial drivers. Instructions have also been given not to renew driving license without health check-up.

Publicity will be done on a large scale

He informed that an action plan has been prepared for monitoring of Road Safety Fortnight from the district administration level. Under this, for the implementation of the Uttar Pradesh Road Accident Investigation Scheme-2023 notified on October 12, 2023, the proceedings of constituting an Accident Investigation Committee and District Level Coordination Committee to investigate three or more road accidents resulting in death in each district will be taken up by the District Administration.

He said that road safety videos will be compulsorily shown at the beginning and interval of the movie in all the cinema halls and multiplexes of the state. Hoardings for not driving while intoxicated will be mandatorily put up at all liquor shops (contracts, model shops, bars). If action is taken to remove encroachments on cities and important roads, effective patrolling will also be ensured in view of fog.

Preparation for strict action also

-The responsibility of enforcement work will be upon police and transport department. Under this, effective enforcement action will be ensured in cases like red light jumping, overspeeding, use of mobile phone while driving, overloading, drunk driving, helmet-seatbelts, wrong side driving as directed by the Committee on Road Safety of the Supreme Court. .

In cases where challan has been issued more than three times in a row, action will be taken to cancel the driving license of the driver and even after this, if the offense is repeated by such drivers, then action will be taken to suspend and cancel the registration of the vehicles.

Apart from this, if overloading is found in mining transport in cargo vehicles, effective enforcement action will be taken at its origin through the task force constituted by the District Magistrate.

– School vehicles will be regularly inspected to ensure their fitness and effective enforcement action will be taken if they are not found to be as per the standards.

According to the School Vehicle Rules, restrictions on operation of school vehicles after the prescribed age of school vehicles will be ensured.

-Registration of e-rickshaws, autorickshaws and taxis in urban areas will be verified and their routes will be determined. Illegal e-rickshaws, autorickshaws, taxi stands will be identified and removed from the roads by taking enforcement action.
