New Delhi, 21 December: The government took a significant step on Thursday as it tabled three Bills in the Rajya Sabha to replace the outdated colonial-era criminal laws.
Home Minister Amit Shah presented the motion for passage of these three redrafted bills – the Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bills in the Rajya Sabha.
These Bills are set to replace the Indian Penal Code-1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure Act-1898, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872, respectively.
In support of these Bills, BJP’s Brijalal stated that they will put an end to the colonial legacy and bring in new and improved laws, better suited for the current times. This move by the government is a ‘positive step towards modernising and strengthening the legal system and ensuring justice for all citizens’ of India.
