New Delhi, 22 December: On Friday, the Gujarat state government announced the launch of a new supplementary textbook on the ‘Bhagavad Gita’ to be included in the curriculum for classes 6 to 8 from the next academic year.
The move is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) drafted by the central government three years ago.
State Minister of Education Praful Pansheriya stated that this decision was made to connect students to India’s rich, diverse, and ancient culture and knowledge systems.
He thanked Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for this decision and believes it will instill moral values among students. Pansheriya also mentioned that two more parts of the textbook, for classes 9 to 12, will be released soon.
The launch of this textbook coincided with Gita Jayanti, which marks the day when the Bhagavad Gita conversation took place between Arjuna and Lord Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
This move by the Gujarat government is seen as an important step in promoting Indian culture and values among students, with Pansheriya stating that it was done under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This new addition to the curriculum is expected to play a significant role in improving values among students and connecting them to their roots.
