New Delhi, 09 October: The Union Cabinet has increased dearness allowance by five percent by giving Diwali gifts to central government employees. This decision of the government will benefit 50 lakh employees and 62 lakh pensioners.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet held on Wednesday at his residence 7, Lok Kalyan Marg under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Briefing about the meeting, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the rate of dearness allowance of central employees and pensioners was earlier 12 percent, which will now increase to 17 percent. This will put a burden of Rs 16 thousand crore on the government exchequer, but 50 lakh employees and 62 lakh pensioners will benefit from it.
