New Delhi , Oct 14 : The Nobel Prize of Economic Sciences (Economic Sciences) has been announced. This year the Nobel of Economics has been given to Abhijit Banerjee, his wife Esther Duffalo and Michael Kramer. All three have been given this award for giving an experimental approach to reducing global poverty.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Abhijit Banerjee on twitter, PM wrote,
Kolkata-born Abhijit Banerjee is an American economist. He is currently employed as a Ford Foundation International Professor at MIT. Banerjee Abdul Latif is a co-founder in Jameel Poverty Action Lab along with Esther Duflo and Sendhil Mullainathan. He is also a member of the Innovation of Poverty Action and the Consortium for Financial Systems and Poverty.
Abhijeet did his studies from South Point School and Presidency College in Kolkata. From where he took a BS degree in Economics in 1981. Later he did his MA in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 1983. He then earned a degree in Economics from Harvard University in the US in 1988. The subject of his doctoral thesis was ‘Essays in Information Economics’.
