New Delhi, January 3: While new cases of Covid-19 are on the rise in the country, 511 cases of its new sub-variant of Omicron ‘JN.1’ have been confirmed.

According to the Health Ministry, cases of this new variant JN.1 have so far been found in 11 states. These include 199 cases from Karnataka, 148 from Kerala, 47 from Goa, 36 from Gujarat, 32 from Maharashtra, 26 from Tamil Nadu, 15 from Delhi, 4 from Rajasthan, 2 from Telangana, 1 from Odisha and 1 from Haryana. .

It is noteworthy that the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified JN.1 as a variant to be kept under surveillance after its rapid global spread but also considering the limited available evidence that JN.1 is caused by The additional public health risk is currently underestimated globally. This is the variant of interest (VoI), not variant of concern (VoC).
