GC Murmu becomes the first LG of Union Territory of J&K, Urdu is no more official language of J&K, RK Mathur becomes the first LG of Ladakh

Srinagar, 31 October: After the swearing-in of Radhakrishna Mathur as the first Lieutenant Governor(LG) of Union Territory of Ladakh on Thursday morning whereas Girish Chandra Murmu as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir took oath at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar in the afternoon. Former Union Expenditure Secretary Garish Chandra Murmu was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Geeta Mittal. With this, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have formally become Union Territories.

Girish Chandra Murmu, who became the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, is a 1985 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre. He is considered to be one of the trusted officers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During Modi’s chief ministership in Gujarat, he was his principal secretary. From 1 March 2019, he was looking after the expenditure secretary in the finance ministry. Prior to being Secretary of Expenditure, he was Special Secretary in the Revenue Department.

As soon as Union Territory, there will be many changes in Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday, in which 106 new laws will be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir with the introduction of IPC instead of RPC. 153 special laws will end in Jammu and Kashmir. Hindi, English will be the official languages ​​instead of Urdu. Assembly will be formed in Jammu and Kashmir like Delhi. The final decision on the bill passed by the Legislative Assembly will be taken by the Lieutenant Governor (LG). The term of the Legislative Assembly will be 5 years instead of 6 years. The responsibility of law and order will rest with the Central Government and the decisions of the Supreme Court of India will apply.

Earlier, Radha Krishna Mathur (RK Mathur) was sworn in as the first Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh on Thursday. After the partition of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh became a separate union territory. Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Geeta Mittal administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mathur in a simple ceremony in Leh.
