Ministry of Culture’s tableau ‘India: Mother of Democracy’ gets the first place

This decision was based on the evaluation of three panels of judges.

New Delhi, 30 January: The Sikh Regiment contingent has been adjudged the best among the three services among the marching contingents on the duty path in the Republic Day Parade. 

A contingent of the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army marched under the leadership of Major Sarabjit Singh. Culture Ministry’s tableau ‘India: Mother of Democracy’ secured the first position. This decision has been taken on the basis of evaluation by three panels of judges.

The motto of the regiment is ‘Decided to win’ and the war cry is ‘Bole So Nihaal, Sat Shri Akal’. The regiment has so far received 82 battle honours, 16 theater honours, 10 Victoria Crosses, 21 ‘Indian Orders of Merit’, two Param Vir Chakras, three Ashok Chakras, one Padma Vibhushan, two Padma Bhushans, 11 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, 14 Mahavir Chakras. , has been awarded 12 Kirti Chakras and two Uttam Vishisht Seva Medals. Apart from this, the regiment has received 72 Shaurya Chakras, one Padma Shri, 19 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, eight Vir Chakras, nine Yudh Seva Medals, 293 Sena Medals, 61 Vishisht Seva Medals and seven Arjuna Awards.

The Sikh Regiment ‘Sher-e-Punjab’ was established by the soldiers of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1846. It played a key role in several battles and campaigns in the North-West Frontier Province (a province of British India) and during the First World War such as Tofrek (1885), Saragarhi (1897), La Bassée (1914) and Neuve Chapelle (1914). . After independence, the Sikh Regiment has played an important role in the battles of Srinagar (1947), Tithwal (1948), Burki (1965), Raja (1965), Poonch (1971) and Parbat Ali (1971).

The tableau of the Ministry of Culture ‘India: Mother of Democracy’ secured the first position and was declared the best among the tableaux of Ministries/Departments by the Jury. 

The tableau, a blend of tradition and innovation, enthralled the jury members and the audience alike. Through this tableau, India’s cultural heritage and India as the mother of democracy have been shown. The Culture Ministry said in a statement that the tableau was a blend of tradition and innovation and the excellent use of ‘anamorphic’ technology to showcase it enthralled the audience.
