New Delhi, 12 February: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is planning to introduce Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) at the secondary level (Class 9 to Class 12). Till now, TET exam for teachers was conducted only till 9th โโclass. This was recommended in the All India National Conference on Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in the light of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) organized by NCTE in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday in New Delhi.
Addressing the inaugural session of the conference, NCTE Member Secretary Kesang Y. Sherpa said that in the National Education Policy-2020, it has been recommended to implement TET at various levels. NCTE is working towards proposing and implementing TET at the secondary level (Class 9 to Class 12). CBSE Chairperson Nidhi Chhibber in her address said that the capability of a teacher creates a healthy environment in the classroom, hence Teacher Eligibility Test plays a very important role in understanding the capability and efficiency of a teacher.
She said that CBSE has been conducting TET examination for a long time, hence it has a lot of experience, we will share the data of this context with NCTE and implement the future plan together. Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Vikram Sahay said that the level of challenges also changes at different levels of education, hence standardization is also necessary for the eligibility of each level.
NCTE Chairman Prof Yogesh Singh said that instead of focusing on marks, the main focus of the education system should also be on developing values โโin students. Underlining the importance of education, Singh said that education is the development of understanding.
Abhimanyu Yadav, Coordinator of TET, National Council for Teacher Education, while giving a presentation on Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), highlighted the journey of TET in improving the quality and capability of school teachers. During this, Yadav discussed points like examination process, eligibility standards and the importance of ensuring the selection of qualified teaching professionals in schools and extending it to all levels of school education.
