Lucknow, 22 February: Police have detained a cleric and are looking for his brother in connection with the gang rape of an eight-year-old girl here, according to authorities.
Vishwajeet Srivastava, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), said a father made a complaint at the Malihabad police station a few days ago, stating that his eight-year-old daughter was raped by two men who teach in a madrasa. Officials identified the two suspects as Mohammed Abedin and his brother, Mohammad Arshad.
According to the complaint, police filed a FIR against the accused under Section 376D (gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the DCP, police detained Abedin and the victim’s mother on Wednesday night under the IPC’s Section 34 (common purpose). “Our teams are attempting to apprehend Arshad, who is fleeing,” the officer explained. The victim’s father works in the Gulf and left India eight months ago, according to officials. Srivastava stated that when the victim’s father left the country, her mother had a relationship with Abedin. The lady was aware that the two accused had raped her daughter, he said. The victim’s father learned of his daughter’s incident after returning home and promptly contacted the police, according to officials.
