Bhopal, 29 February: Today (Thursday) is the date which will make the year 2024 of 366 days. After spending a year of 365 days for three years, it has come to 366 days with February 29 for the fourth year. The day of 29th February has come after a wait of four years.
In this regard, Bhopal’s national award winning science broadcaster Sarika Gharu said that it is called leap year.
She said that generally Happy New Year is celebrated when 365 days have passed since the Earth revolves around the Sun, whereas this revolution takes 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 45 seconds to complete. To accommodate this extra 6 hours, after every four years, an extra day is added to the month of February to make it a leap year. Due to this, adjustment of the calendar month and its associated weather is maintained.
Scientific summary also states that generally a leap year is identified by dividing the number of a year by four. A full portion of 400 is also given for its other tests. So celebrate this extra special day in a very special way, because the next 29th February will have to wait for 2028.
