Hathras, 02 July: Over 80 people have lost their lives so far in the stampede that occurred after a satsang in Ratibhaanpur in Sikandrarao Kotwali area in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
In the accident, 27 bodies have been brought to Etah District Hospital and 50-60 bodies to CHC Sikandrarao. District Magistrate Ashish Kumar said that 50 to 60 people have died in the accident. He said that a committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
The President and the Prime Minister have expressed grief over the incident.
The District Magistrate said that when people started coming out after the satsang in a village Mughalgadhi in Sikandrarao Kotwali area, a stampede occurred. The injured in the accident are being taken to the hospital. When media personnel asked that 27 bodies have been brought to Etah, then how many people have died in the accident. The District Magistrate said that the doctors of the CHC here have told me the death toll of 50-60 people.
He told that the SDM had given permission to organize the program and it was a private event. A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The priority of the administration is to provide all possible help to the families of the injured and the deceased.
Expressing deep condolences over this accident, President Draupadi Murmu said that `The news of the death of many devotees including women and children in the accident in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh is heart-breaking. I express my deep condolences to the people who lost their family members and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the dead in the Hathras accident during the proceedings of the House in the Lok Sabha and said that `I assure that all possible help will be provided to the victims.’
In view of the Hathras accident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sent two ministers of the government Chaudhary Laxminarayan, Sandeep Singh and Chief Secretary and DGP to the spot.
Chief Minister Yogi has written on the social media platform X that `The loss of life in the unfortunate accident in Hathras district is extremely sad and heart-rending. My condolences are with the bereaved families. Instructions have been given to the concerned officials for conducting relief and rescue operations on a war footing and proper treatment of the injured.
The Chief Minister further wrote that Ministers in the Uttar Pradesh government, Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, Sandeep Singh have left for the incident site. The Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the state have also been directed to reach the incident site.
