New Delhi, August 2: The Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday that India will soon open an embassy in Timor-Leste or East Timor – A Southeast nation in Asia.
Foreign Ministry Secretary (East) Jaideep Majumdar said in a press briefing today that we have announced the opening of our mission in Timor-Leste. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced this in September last year. We are moving forward towards establishing our embassy, ββββand we will establish it very soon.
He said that meanwhile, Timor-Leste has also announced its intention to open its embassy in New Delhi. We have warmly welcomed this.
The secretary said that in such a situation it will be a ‘Delhi-Dili’ contact which will be strengthened after the opening of both the embassies.
It is noteworthy that Dili is the capital of Timor-Leste.
He said that we have identified a team that will soon go to Dili to open the embassy. We are also in the process of appointing an ambassador. Similarly, from Timor-Leste’s side, we are waiting for their team to come and set up their embassy. This work will be done in the next few months, at least from our side.
